New York Giants defensive end Justin Tuck will be wearing an interesting new face mask in the upcoming 2012 NFL season, the Giants sent out a photo of the ultra protective look on their Facebook page earlier today.
Looking closer to a helmet a knight would wear with a suit of armour than a football helmet, it’s not the first time we’ve seen a player go on the super safe side when it comes to a face mask.
During the 1994 season San Diego Chargers’ offensive tackle Harry Swayne went with this similarly protective mask:
More recently current Giants (and former Dallas Cowboys) defensive lineman Chris Canty wore this mask plus face shield to protect his eyes after suffering a detached retina earlier in his career:
On the opposite side of the spectrum you have kicker Gary Anderson who wore nothing more than a single bar, old school style, up until he retired in 2004:
That one might be my fave of the bunch.
