Toronto Blue Jays Canada Day Jersey 2012

The Toronto Blue Jays yesterday put their 2012 Canada Day jerseys up for sale on their online team shop (or is it “shoppe”?) giving us our first look at the new uniform all done up in red.

As we expected the uniform is a straight red version of their alternate blue jerseys.  When the Blue Jays wore their Canada Day jerseys in 1996 (the first and only time with the original branding that the current look is based off of) they did the exact same thing.

Backs of the jerseys will replace player name with "CANADA"

Like previous years “CANADA” will be on the backs of the jerseys in place of player names (which is one element I could do without); a Canadian flag patch will be worn on the sleeves.

The MLB silhouette logo on the back collar will be in the standard Blue Jays colours of light blue/white/blue.

No official word on what cap will be worn, but Lids stores up in Canada are selling the “Stars-and-Stripes” camouflage caps with the tag “BLUE JAYS CANADA DAY 2012” on them, and the Jays have worn the Stars and Stripes caps on Canada Day since their league-wide roll out.

Looks like this will be the cap worn with the Canada Day jerseys this year

We gotta hope they don’t go with this cap with this uniform as it does not match in any way… hopefully they again do as they did in ’96 and wear an all-red version of their regular cap.

The Canada Day game will be played on July 1st against another all-red team, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

    • Martin

They should always wear a canada-flag on the sleeve.

      • Jeff

I agree! Be proud of their Heritage!

  • Michael

    OH CANADA!!! Thats cool…

seguro va a ser un exito de ventas / sure will be a sales success

    looks great

  • Max

Use the 1996 red cap use the new logo on it for Canada Day.

  • Aaron

They should have the blue in the script. Otherwise, these are nice jerseys.

  • ingmar66

Agree, a little blue in the script would not hurt it. These are the Blue Jays, after all. As for the hat, an all red one with the current, regular logo would be great. Will the Angels also wear something to remember Canada Day? A sleeve patch with a leaf or something?

    • BigBubba

      Why would they?

  • BurkRy

I like the idea, but of all the teams you could show up in red for the first time ever to play against, it’s the angels?

  • Jeff L

Let’s hope that common sense prevails and that the Jays don’t wear the stars and stripes/camouflage caps on Canada Day and instead wear red caps. It’s about time that they brought back the red jersey’s for Canada Day.

    • Chris Creamer

Hey Jeff, they wore red jerseys for last year’s Canada Day game as well and previously in 2009.

      • Danny P

And last year against the Phillies, who also wear mostly red.

  • Robert F

the hat should be red, back and bill hat, with a white front and the every day logo… that would be sharp look hat with that jersey.

  • @Creussner

This year they should wear their new batting practice cap on canada day.
