Three different jerseys, three different pants, and three different helmets assure the Eagles will look different each game for the foreseeable future. Adidas provided EMU with the new uniform choices for use during the 2012-2013 season.

Green, white, and grey are the colors of each of the three selections, and various combinations were shown. The jerseys have a wing design on the shoulders, which will no doubt, remind viewers of the Oregon Ducks shoulder wings.

Coach Ron English announced that the uniforms are a lightweight design made with TechFit fabric, which promises a “breatheable, comfortable fit” for the players. TechFit is being released, slowly, to programs and features a seamless construction with panels made to breathe or protect.

Interestingly, the images released by Eastern Michigan are all illustrations, rather than photographs, so tint, color, fit, etc is difficult to ascertain. The lone photograph is a “leaked” pic that was out about a week prior.

In looking at the documents under the helmets, this shows a three stripe arm on the green jersey, which is inconsistent with the illustrations official released. Though, from these, one can tell the grey is a flat finish, which I’m sure will appeal to those mercurial “youth.”

Adidas apparently thinks people love the logo’s gloves that Nike makes, so they created a version for EMU, with the block E, in this case on each palm, rather than the convoluted diamond-hands-pattern across both.

In a unique promotion, EMU is asking fans to vote on its Facebook and Twitter pages on its uniform combination for its Oct. 13 home game against Toledo. Voting concludes on Aug. 30 and the winning combination will be unveiled prior to kickoff. Fans can vote on Facebook here.

Here is a selection of some of the available options.

What say you, sportsfan? Is this a cool modern look, or is it gimmicky, tacky, copycat tripe? Would you wear it? Would it make you choose Eastern Michigan?

“Three different jerseys, three different pants, and three different pants assure the Eagles will look different each game for the foreseeable future.” Just a house keeping issue, but I think it should read “Three different jerseys, three different pants, and three different helmets.”
    Keep up the good work!

Right you are, sir. Thank you for the keen eye. Fixed!

I do think the jerseys are sharp because they’re not over-styled but regardless of that, the wings coming of of the players arms is pretty cool graphic design.

  • Rob

The wiings on the shoulder got to go!!! Other than that and the jerseys being too tight, the rest is fine.

Why are there wings on these uniforms? What do wings have to do with Hurons? Until EMU goes back to being the Eastern Michigan Hurons, everything they do to any uniform will meet with my disapproval.

now if only new uniforms would make the on field product better. almost every school is coming up with new uniform color schemes, logos, helmets, alternate this and that, gloves, black jersey with black pants/black jersey with white pants, etc to help entice recruits to choose their school. any kid that chooses a college based on how good he will look in the uniform should not be going to college on a free ride

Uniforms should mean something. The Packers, Bears, Raiders, Steelers have it right. One uniform, one identity. Unfortunately, Eastern Michigan is going the opposite way. Like Oregon, there is no identity. Just a bunch of crappy uniforms and logos that mean nothing. Pathetic.

Lots of mistakes here. Two uniforms should do, skip the grey/anthracite/ whatever you may call it. It might be trendy, but I am fed up with all these boring grey outfits. Only teams like Georgetown or Ohio State who actually have grey as an official colour can get away with it. The gloves are all wrong and look like 80′s ski gloves. As for the wings on the arms, it is a bit too much like Oregon. Next thing we know every team nicknamed after a bird will carry wings on its sleeves. Be creative. The fact that people can vote for the best outfit is OK, but I agree with the opinion mentioned above: pick a uniform and stick with it for the next 100 years or so. Create a tradition instead of reinventing one every other season.

I think that for a program like EMU, it makes some sense to try to reinvent their identity since their history is not exactly illustrious. Seems like Ron English made a step in the right direction with the on-field product last season. If they feel they can steal some recruits from WMU/CMU/Toledo or just get away from the doormat reputation/image that they’ve had for a long while now, i say do it.
That being said, i don’t think these are particularly cool or exciting jerseys.

What do wings have to do with the Huron tribe? I just don’t understand that part of the uniform. Are Central Michigan’s Chippewas also using wings? I just don’t see how this ties in with the Huron affiliation with EMU’s brand. It makes no sense … unless you want to tie EMU’s brand to the name of an overpriced off-campus golf course or something – but who would want to do that?

    Otherwise, pretty nice looking uniform.
