Istanbul 2020 Unveils New Summer OIympics Bid Logo

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Saturday unveiled his country’s bid logo for the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Featuring the skyline of the proposed host city of Istanbul encased within the shape of the official town flower, the lilly, the new logo was chosen by Turkish residents in a vote amongst five finalists.

The Five finalists, #2 was the winner -- did the people of Turkey choose the right one?

An interesting element of the bid logo is the nod to the fact that if the games were to be held in Istanbul in 2020 it would be the first Olympic games to span across multiple continents.  The City of Istanbul is situated in both Europe and Asia, the blue and orange swooshes in the logo symbolise the two continents.

Istanbul is up against Tokyo and Madrid to host the 2020 Summer Olympics, the winning city will be announced on September 7, 2013. London will host the 2012 Olympics starting later this week; Sochi, Russia hosts the 2014 Winter Games; Rio de Janeiro in the Summer of 2016; and Pyongchang, South Korea has the Winter Olympics in 2018.

Kurt that is just the bid logo...IIRC London had a nice bid logo. Once they are awarded the games they have to create a GAMES logo. Not sure if there are all the bid logo's on this site. But many are better than the games logos. I remember Atlanta had "A"s that formed a giant star.

I'm with Steve. That "I" should be capitalized, or else Steve Jobs and the Apple crew had city-purchasing as their next big thing...

Not sure about the lilly in the logo, I think the flower is a tullip. The tullip trade from Turkey to Holland was a multimillion business 300 years ago. The winning logo is really nice.
