Minor League Team to wear Firefighter/Police Tribute Jersey

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox, the Triple-A Pacific Coast League affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, announced yesterday that they will be wearing a special jersey this Saturday, July 28th to honour their local police officers and firefighters.

A blazing inferno with the silhouettes of a firefighter and a police officer in front of the flames is the main design feature of the special jersey.  Patches for the Colorado Springs Police Department and Fire Department will be on either sleeve with the team script arched across the front.

The back of the jersey features the player number with the emblem of the Fire Department and the following quote…

“It’s not something you do, it’s something you are.” – quote featured on the backs of the special jerseys

The inspiration behind the fiery design is the efforts both departments made in extinguishing the Waldo Canyon Fire, which burned nearby between June 23 and July 10, 2012.

The reverse of the jersey, features FD shield and the quote below number

All jerseys worn in the game will be auctioned off with 100% (are you listening MLB?) of the proceeds going directly to local police and firefighter charities (50% to each).

“Our players, fans and the entire Sky Sox family are honored to pay tribute to our local heroes for not only the heroics they showed during the Waldo Canyon Fire but also for what they do day-in and day-out to make Colorado Springs one of the best communities in America”, Colorado Sky Sox President & General Manager Tony Ensor

The jerseys will be sold during the game via a silent auction, following the game a special live auction will commence on the dugout for the jerseys of that evenings starting nine.
