Nike Reveals ‘Uniforms’ for Top Players in Melbourne

The best part about tennis uniforms is the lack of uniformity. Of course Wimbledon always offers up a steady dose of white, but other than the classic monotony of London, each of the other three Grand Slam events has its own dose of interest. Traditionally the looks in Australia and then in September in New York have the most intrigue.

With the Australian Open in Melbourne less than a week away—the tourney starts on Monday, Jan. 14—Nike has released some of the looks for its top athletes.

Typically classic, Roger Federer will go with a polo shirt from his signature line. The herringbone twill shorts up the style points slightly.

A little less formal on the courts of Melbourne, Juan Martin Del Potro has opted for a raised V-neck design.

Generally one of the flashiest of the bunch, Serena Williams’ main fashion stance this year will be a pleated dress. The stretch polyester Dri-FIT material will also offer plenty of color options for one of the world’s most dominating players.

Maria Sharapova has always stayed classically fashion-forward and this year is no different with a new “Premier Maria Dress” featuring perforated stretch construction for ideal range of motion. Expect a “shimmery finish” on the front that catches light as part of the ombre print that fades through differing colors over the length of the outfit.

The current world No. 1, Vika Azarenka, has opted for a Dri-FIT dress with increased breathability and a modified racerback design for performance.

Li Na will go with a two-part outfit, opting for a short-sleeve top and a traditional skirt.
