The Seattle Mariners today tweeted out a video of their 1909 Turn Back the Clock uniforms to be worn in a game against the Chicago Cubs in Seattle on June 29th.

Seattle will be honouring the 1909 Seattle Turks, a minor league team in the Northwestern League, who in their only season went 109-58 on their way to a the Northwestern League Championship.

The uniforms will fairly accurate compared with the only photo of the Seattle Turks I was able to find:

“SEATTLE” will be arched across the front of the jersey, a white cap with blue bill and “S”, as well as high socks featuring a blue stripe on white.

The uniforms:

The cap:

While they’ve yet to announce anything it’s extremely likely the Chicago Cubs will be joining in on this promotion, and let’s hope they do because the 1909 Cubs wore this gem for their road games:

Can’t wait to see the 2013 Cubs wearing this one!

I love the pinstripes on the Cubs hat. I wish some team would bring that back.

  • Otis

Gross. The sooner baseball stops romanticizing awful flannel uniforms the better.

  • Aaron

Yeah, let’s hope the Cubs follow suit with those old style road uniforms. Whoever says this turn back the clock idea is overdone? It’s a great way to show not just the team’s history, but the history of that sport in that city.

Technically, they posted a Vine, not a video

      Technically it’s a video posted on Vine… you wouldn’t say someone posted “a YouTube”, unless you’re 65.

i like it but need to have longer sleaves and that neck thing that they have on the picture

Penn State’s baseball team needs to wear that Seattle hat.

Actually the Turks’ jersey is so simple, it is beautiful.

  • madpanda

I like the simplicity of the Turks’ unis, but to really be authentic it needs the collar and long sleeves…otherwise it would look pretty modern compared to the 1909 Cubbies one (which looks awesome).

    I love the Seattle caps.

what no mid-80′s trident m era uniforms? lol. This one piques my curiosity.

When the hell are we gonna see the Cubs throwback their 1980 road uniforms?

    • Aaron

Those Cubs road uniforms from the 1980′s should come back as an alternate, but with button down jerseys and the current shoulder patch logo on the sleeve. Or a modernized version of the 1980′s shoulder patch logo.

    Are the caps New Era?

The Cubs were defending champions in that photo! Maybe they should change their unis back to what they wore back then. Might just be the ticket aside from moving out of Wrigley Field.

The Seattle jerseys and caps are a lot better than the Cubs.

  • ingmar66

The Mariners should wear this more often. It looks very basic but very stylish at the same time. Wonder what the Cubs will make of these awesome road uniforms and the pinstriped hat. What was the Turks logo, by the way? A gobbling turkey?

I wish that the Mariners would do Throwback Jerseys for the 1902-1903 Seattle Clamdiggers Baseball Team. That is a truly unique mascot and says, “the Pacific Northwest” much more than Mariners or Pilots or Seahawks. Rainiers, Sounders and Clamdiggers, now that’s the Pacific Northwest! Ivor would have been proud of that! He use to say, “Keep Clam!” for the motto of his famous Seafood Restaurants in Seattle.
