Majestic Athletic, the producer of every on-field Major League Baseball uniform for the past decade, unveiled the next generation of MLB batting practice jerseys via their 2013 All-Star Game BP uniforms.

“Players demanded durable, lightweight, breathable fabrics with cooling technology and a traditional look.  We delivered.  Introducing the new MLB Authentic Collection Batting Practice Jersey from Majestic.  Utilizing a combination of advanced fabrics, strategic ventilation, and quick dry mesh piecing, this new addition to the MLB lineup is sure to be a winner on-field and off!” – Majestic’s Announcement

The past few incarnations of the MLB BP jersey program have been largely templated across the league and there’s no doubt that this won’t be any different; so what can we expect our favourite teams to look like when they take the Spring Training field next Februrary?

Templated looks will likely remain, but at least this ridiculous giant collar design used by Seattle (top) and Detroit (bottom) from 2011-2013 is likely gone

It looks like those silly large collars worn by teams like Detroit and Seattle in the current version are gone, replaced with much more traditional (but still different) collars which run from the buttons through to the shoulder.  The collar piping looks to be approximately half-an-inch in width.

No more alternate coloured side panels running from the waist all the way up to the armpit, now they’re limited to just the armpit area; which, well, could hide some rather unsightly sweat stains I suppose.

So with all that information in mind, let’s open up Photoshop and take a shot at what this new look could produce for a couple of MLB clubs come 2014:

Just a couple of educated guesses on our part on what some of the 2014 MLB BP jerseys could look like. Here’s Toronto and Houston

If that’s what we end up getting next season, I’m a fan.

As for the 2013 MLB ASG jerseys, as with the jerseys of the last few games they are largely inspired by the branding of the host team, this year that team is the New York Mets.  The road AL jersey is blue while the home NL look is orange, both colours of the Mets.  The classic NYC skyline logo featured in the Mets primary branding is incorporated across the chest with the league names.

On the back the player numbers will have a star pattern sublimated onto them, here’s a close up look courtesy the Majestic Facebook page:

No fear fans of baseball tradition, players will still wear their respective big league club uniforms for the actual All-Star Game; the blue and orange jerseys you see above will be worn only for the Home Run Derby and during pre-game warmups.

Not bad actually. Not as good as the currents, but they’re not horrible.

  • Rob S

All of them are horrible! I would never buy a BP Jersey/

  • Blake

Toronto’s jersey is sick! Houston’s looks like they should be working the drive-thru at a fast food place.

Keeping in mind these are simply concepts/predictions

Baseball’s ASG is the only game that the players wear their own uniforms, and I like that. I wish the NFL, NBA & NHL would let their players wear their own uniforms for their all-star games.

The NBA All-Star game was actually aesthetically similar to the MLB for several years between the late 90s and early 2000s, but then they went BACK to these themed jerseys… sadly…

I dig those All-Star BP jerseys a lot! The wordmarks are cool with the incorporated NY skyline and the bridge running in the foreground.

I could take or leave the faint-star pattern on the numbers, though.

    Awful especially Houston’s

  • I’m not a fan of the Astros BP jersey, because of the size of the star-H patch. But, making the rainbow side panel smaller is a step in the wrong direction.

  • Ok now what

  • jtdddd94

Houston’s look better with the full panel in my opinion. Collar looks good on it though, reminiscent of the orange/navy elastic collar from the pullover days

    • Brian Jud

I agree with you, the Astros are kind of getting screwed if the side panels end up smaller.

These ASG jerseys are very nice and if it is the shape of BP/ Spring Training jerseys to come, I am a fan.

As much as i miss (and collect) the spring training jerseys of the 80s and 90s, Majestic is making up considerable ground with these. Less is more, always in the baseball aesthetic.

Except for the Astros. Those jerseys look like a local embroidery shop had leftover block letters from football season and made some rec league unis.

The Astros jersey pictured is just a concept of mine, not necessarily what they’ll actually use… Although Majestic tweeted this article so perhaps we’re pretty close

As soon as I saw the new ASG jerseys on the MLB shop I had a feeling they were going to be used as the template for next years BP jerseys. I actually like the new ASG (Home Run Derby) jerseys. I still like the current ones alot as well but won’t have a problem when they change them (except for buying the current Phils one last month, now I gota get a new one if it looks good lol).

  • andy

Astros are using the BP uniform in regular season ? Why???

  • Andrew

All the new jerseys are on pg 85 of the 2014 majestic catalog, really like the reds, rays, orioles and red sox ones

  • Andre

So are they also going to switch to fitted hats for BP (as they did this ASG) or will it still be the stretch. I know it’s New Eras department but I didn’t know if anything alluded to.
