The Anaheim Ducks shutout the Los Angeles Kings last night 3-0 in the first-ever NHL hockey game played at Dodger Stadium, and the first outdoor game held in the State of California.

There were beach volleyball courts, a street hockey game, and a KISS concert all going on around the ice rink… personally what I couldn’t get over was how weird a green grass baseball field looked next to a hockey game.

Unlike the Winter and Heritage Classics before them which embrace the roots and history of the sport with the uniforms the players wear, the “Stadium Series” looks to the future… a “Turn Ahead the Clock” style of uniform. This being the inaugural Stadium Series game it gave us our first look at these futuristic uniforms in action, with their angled numbers, sublimated “chrome” crests, and abbreviated collar lacing.

The futuristic templatey fun continues this afternoon as the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils go head-to-head at Yankee Stadium. The Devils, being awesome, have elected to go with their retro 1980s red-and-green uniforms… the only team in this series to go with a classic look. The Rangers will be wearing white versions of the LA Kings jerseys from last night with “NEW YORK” going diagonally across the front.

There will be a second game at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday between the Islanders and Rangers, the final game of the series is between Pittsburgh and Chicago at Soldier Field on March 1.
