Toronto Maple Leafs Pat Quinn Patch 2014-15

The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced they will be wearing a special memorial patch in the shape of a clover in honour of Pat Quinn, the former Leafs coach and player died yesterday at the age of 71.

According to the Tweet the patch will be worn for tomorrow night’s game in Pittsburgh against the Penguins, it has also been reported that it will be worn again on Saturday when the Leafs return home to face the Capitals. It is not expected that the patch will be worn for the remainder of the 2014-15 season.

Quinn started his NHL career as a defenceman with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1968-69, he later joined the team as head coach leading the team to Eastern Conference Final appearances in 1999 and again in 2002. In all Quinn played for the Leafs, Canucks, and Atlanta Flames and was head coach of the Flyers, Kings, Canucks, Leafs, and Oilers as well as with Team Canada winning a gold medal in the 2002 Winter Olympics.

This is not the first time the Leafs have worn a clover to honour a former player/coach – a clover patch featuring a crown was worn on the shoulder in memory of “King” Clancy after his death in November 1986:
