The Seattle Mariners are taking a step back into their past in 2015 with the release of their new Sunday home alternate uniform.
The new uniform is a straight-up copy of their standard 1993-2015 home white uniform but re-coloured blue and yellow to match the team’s look from 1977, their first season, up through 1992. The base of the uniform is also now cream (or heritage white) to give it a more vintage look.
“The royal blue and gold colours of our franchise’s inaugural uniforms are blended with the lettering and logo of our current identity in a unique design that pays homage to our club’s history,” said Kevin Martinez, Vice President of Marketing for the Seattle Mariners. “This new alternate uniform is perfect for sunny Sunday afternoons at Safeco Field.”
The team also announced a series of other minor, but fantastic, tweaks to their home and road uniform set. First, the wordmarks across both jerseys have had their outline/trim colours upgraded.
“We’ve simply reversed the order of the silver and green. The change is subtle,” said Martinez, “but the modified colour arrangement presents a much stronger and crisper on-field look.”
And, the best of all, striped stirrups!
