The Houston Astros today announced that the club will take part in two turn-back-the-clock games during the 2015 season, all part of celebrations honouring the 50th anniversary of the team.

First, the team will wear their original Astros uniforms, the 1965 “Shooting Star” design in a game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on April 18th. The Angels will also wear their 1965 uniforms which means a rare appearance of Angels players wearing anything which says “Los Angeles” on it.

The Astros also officially announced that the club will wear a 50th anniversary patch throughout the season, the patch will be worn on the sleeve of the home, road, and alternate jerseys. We reported on this a few weeks ago, you can see the patch in our post here.

Yes, the Astros celebrated 50 years back in 2012, that celebration was for the establishment of the franchise (in 1962 as the Houston Colt 45s), this go-round is just for the Astros. The Colt .45s became the Astros for the 1965 season.
