Tigers 1945 ThrowbackThe Chicago Cubs took part in yet another throwback uniform game last night, their 5th of the season and 15th in the last year-and-a-half. This time they went back to 1945 to honour the 70th anniversary of the World Series they lost to the Detroit Tigers. Naturally, (as you can see from the photo above) the Tigers also donned the retro threads.

Chicago wore the wishbone-style “C” in red on a blue cap, jerseys were plain white with the Cubs’ 1940s logo on the chest.

The Tigers had a comically large (and inaccurately sized) “D” on the front of their cap, we’re not quite sure what happened here… Otherwise their uniforms looked solid, basically an orange-free version of their modern road set.

Both teams wore their 2015 batting helmet design, the Tigers also included their World War II patch, which the club wore back in ’45. Nice.

A side-by-side comparing how the reproductions last night compared to what the teams actually wore in 1945:

As you can very plainly see the Tigers “D” on the cap is way too large in 2015. Again, not sure how this happened, otherwise both teams wore uniforms fairly faithful to the originals.
