Portland Pirates Unveil New Uniforms

Pirates

As part of their new affiliation agreement with the NHL’s Florida Panthers, the Portland Pirates have a new uniform set, unveiled today, including the return of a retro favourite.

Looking suspiciously like a fan design concept from 2012, the new home and road uniforms are red and white, both include black piping on the shoulders (stop doing this), laces at the collar, and horizontal stripes across the waist and arms.

New Portland Pirates Uniforms

The new alternate uniform is a throwback to what the team worn during their first four seasons including the old team logo. Like most other designs hated by everybody in the 1990s the original Pirates look is suddenly loved, apparently I’m the only one who’s memory extends back more than 15 years? The uniform itself is fine but that logo used to be panned and mocked…

“We feel the new game uniforms bring us a more traditional look that our players and fans will be proud of. We’re also excited to bring back our original ‘Swash’ logo and our original uniform design in our alternate jerseys. This is a design that our fans have been asking for, and we are very happy to make this design a reality.” – Pirates COO Brad Church

The shoulder patch is the Florida Panthers logo.

Portland also made a slight change to their primary logo for the season, the “PORTLAND” wordmark which used to arch to the side of “Salty Pete” has been removed.
