The United States will be hosting the 2016 special Centenario edition of Copa America, which is South America’s premier international soccer tournament. This will also be the event where the USMNT will finally debut the new US Soccer crest — which they still have yet to officially unveil.
However, another part of the US Soccer identity may have leaked as well — the official shirt. Thanks to the ever-reliable crew over at Todo Sobre Camisetas, we’ve got a look at what the USMNT could be wearing for Copa America, and, um, let’s just say that I hope that they tweak things before they officially unveil this, because yikes.
That appears to be a black shirt with one red sleeve and one blue sleeve. That’s not exactly the best look for a soccer shirt, and if they do choose to go with this then I’d actually prefer their current blue jerseys by far over this. It’s reminiscent of Barcelona’s centennial kits from 1999, which isn’t exactly a glowing comparison in my opinion.
I’m actually a fan of the new crest, but this would be an inauspicious debut on a shirt for this crest if it turns out to be legit. What do you think? Do you all actually like that shirt?
