Royals Gold 2016
If you were a fan of the special gold-trimmed uniforms that the defending World Series Champion Kansas City Royals wore for their season-opening series against the New York Mets, then we’ve got good news for you — they’re going to keep on wearing them for the remainder of the season.

Indeed, the Royals have announced that they’ve received permission from Major League Baseball to use the gold uniforms as an alternate uniform, and they’ll be wearing them for every Friday home game this season.

The gold trimmed uniforms, emblematic of winning the World Series the previous season, will be worn every home Friday for the remainder of the regular season beginning with the Friday, April 22 game against the Baltimore Orioles.

“These uniforms are representative of a huge accomplishment for our franchise and after seeing the reception they received, not only from our fans, but equally as important, our players, we decided to seek permission to at least wear them periodically during the 2016 season,” said Kevin Uhlich, Royals’ Senior Vice President of Business Operations. “We’d like to thank Major League Baseball, Majestic and New Era for their efforts in allowing us the opportunity to enjoy these one-of-a-kind uniforms throughout this year.”

The Royals aren’t the first team in baseball history to wear uniforms dedicated to commemorating a World Series victory in the previous season (hello, 1906 New York Giants), and they definitely aren’t the first team to spend a season wearing some sort of tribute to last season’s accolades in recent memory (hello again, Giants), but this is the first time that a team has decided to keep their Opening Day golden celebration rolling through the entire season. Plus, it helps that gold fits right in to the Royals’ color scheme, so this is a good choice from an aesthetic point of view as well.

Now, as long as they don’t have any more hat mix-ups, then this is a solid move for the Royals in my opinion. The fans want it, and the uniforms don’t look bad at all, so why not add them into the rotation for this season? Do you agree?
