The Oshawa Generals will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of their franchise with a commemorative logo and jersey during the upcoming 2016-17 Ontario Hockey League season.

Five-time Memorial Cup Champions, the Generals – originally named due to the Canadian Headquarters of General Motors being located in town -introduced the new “80th anniversary jersey” via a video and post on their website earlier this week.

The jersey is blue, where the Generals typically wear red, with “heritage white”, blue, and red shoulders stripes similar in style to the New York Rangers road jersey (also sharing an overall colour scheme with the Rangers alternate uniforms). On the sleeves and around the waist are the Generals familiar five stripes, a feature of all their jerseys for several decades now. The logo on the chest is a slightly re-coloured version of their logo from the early 1960s (and used again in the 1970s).

Making the OHL and CCM patches in “heritage white” as well is a nice touch.

On the shoulder of the jersey is the new 80th anniversary logo, which you’d imagine would also be included on their standard home and road jerseys. The 80th anniversary logo is a blue roundel with the phrase “ONCE A GENERAL ALWAYS A GENERAL” on the outer circle. It’s “heritage white” on the inside, a large red “80” with the modern day logo and year of their first season surrounding it. Also fairly similar to something the Rangers did recently.

The team also announced they would be raising another banner to retire a jersey at some point during the season (gotta be Marc Savard, right?), and will also fans to vote on the team’s 80th anniversary all-star team.
