Hartford Pays Respects to Gordie with On-Ice Tribute

Gordie Howe will be back on the ice in Hartford once again in 2016-17.

For “helping build hockey in Hartford”, the Wolf Pack (New York Rangers AHL affiliate) will display Mr. Hockey’s famous number 9 on the ice on either side of the red line for the entire season.

Gordie played for the then-New England Whalers in the World Hockey Association from 1977 through 1979, when the Whalers jumped to the National Hockey League for 1979-80 Howe went with them playing for Hartford for one season, playing his final game at the age of 52.

In his 26 NHL seasons the Hall of Famer played 1767 games scoring 801 goals and 1850 points, both NHL records at the time of his retirement. He died on June 10, 2016.
