Confirmed: MLB Caps Will Fly the New Era Flag

MLB New Era Flag on Cap Cubs

The Major League Baseball cap, one of the last player-worn articles free of its manufacturer logo, will be adding the New Era flag beginning with the upcoming 2016 Postseason.

In a call with SportsLogos.Net, MLB confirmed that the New Era logo will appear on the left side of every player’s in-game ball cap once the Postseason gets underway, you’ll see it on-field for the first time on Tuesday, October 4th during the American League Wildcard game and again every game thereafter.

MLB’s longtime deal with New Era was amended to include the on-field exposure of their “flag” logo, the deal extends into the 2017 regular season and applies for all thirty teams which yes, includes the New York Yankees who are the only team excluded from wearing a Majestic Athletic logo on their jersey sleeves.

For about a week we had been seeing the New Era logo included on retail images showcasing the postseason caps but this is the first time MLB has confirmed that it will indeed be worn in the game and was not just a retail exclusive or error in the photo.

Fans of the logo-free cap look will want to tune in on Sunday, October 2nd as that will be the last time you’ll ever see the on-field cap “clean”, for all you trivia geeks the last games without the cap logos will be the Cleveland Indians vs Kansas City Royals and the Pittsburgh Pirates vs St Louis Cardinals, both of which start at 3:15pm ET that final day.
