Stamps Cover-Up Gun Logo on Jersey After Teammate Murdered

Calgary Stampeders Crossed Pistols

The Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League will be covering up the crossed pistols logo on their jersey shoulder after one of their own was gunned down late last month Stampeders defensive back Mylan Hicks, a former player with Michigan State, was killed following a shooting at a Calgary nightclub on September 25th.

Calgary typically wears a logo featuring two crossed pistols on the shoulder of their black alternate jersey, a jersey they plan on wearing throughout the remainder of their home games in the 2016 season. The team has not yet decided whether they will permanently remove the patch in future seasons.

“The Stampeders’ black jersey has been very popular with many of our fans and players since we became the first CFL team to wear an alternate jersey in 1994 and it will remain an important part of our identity. Following the season, we will review all options in regards to potential changes to the design of the jersey.” – Stampeders GM/president John Hufnagel
