San Diego Padres unveil new home-and-road uniforms for 2017

Last season, the Padres unveiled plenty of new uniforms, but the home and road set had the caveat of only being around for one season. Sure enough, today the Padres unveiled their new home and road set for 2017 and presumable for the foreseeable future.

If you were expecting the Padres to do something exciting with their uniforms — like, oh, I don’t know, finally giving the public what they want and returning to the color scheme of brown-and-gold — then you’re in for a disappointment. In a video that they posted on their Twitter account, the Padres got to the good news early when they announced that the brown alternate uniforms would be returning for 2017. They also announced that the “Wayback Wednesday” throwbacks and their military alternates would be returning as well.

The bad news came when they eventually unveiled the new home-and-road set. Here it is.

I’m going to be totally honest — this is about as “meh” as “meh” can get when it comes to baseball uniforms. Yes, the Padres didn’t exactly have the most exciting color combination and uniform set for 2016, but they at least added a bit of a twist with the yellow. Now they’ve returned to a very bland color scheme of navy blue-and-white, and the overall look of their home-and-road set is just very, very boring.

Again, the only good news we got today from the Padres is that they’re keeping their brown alternates. Personally, I’m still holding out hope that they’ll realize that that’s their best look and they’ll eventually build their set based on that alternate and color scheme. But for the time being, we have to endure this milquetoast set of uniforms.

What do you all think, though? Are these uniforms actually perfectly fine, or should the Padres try to shake things up and bring their visual identity back to brown-and-gold?
