First Look: Stanley Cup 125th Anniversary Logo

Stanley Cup 125th Anniversary LogoToday we got our first look at the logo which will be used to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Stanley Cup next season. The logo was Tweeted out by the official account of the Ottawa Senators (@Senators).

The logo shows the same graphic of the Stanley Cup which has been recycled across all logos featuring the cup since 2013, on the cup is a black shield with “125th” on it in white, a ribbon wraps around the cup and shield reading “Stanley Cup” and “Anniversary”. Note that “NHL” and its shield logo is nowhere to be found on the logo.

No word on how this logo will be used in the 2017-18 season, the only other time the cup was given its own anniversary logo was when it celebrated its centennial in 1993 — all teams wore the special logo that season on their jerseys.

The Stanley Cup was first awarded in 1893, twenty-four years before the inaugural season of the National Hockey League. It has been presented to the playoff champion of the NHL every year since 1927 with the exception of the 2005 season cancelled by a labour dispute.
