“Luggy the Lugnut” is ready for his closeup.
The baseball world’s most adorable fastener will be featured prominently, and how, on two of the three new caps unveiled today by the Midwest League’s Lansing Lugnuts, a Single-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays.
Introduced was a new road cap, an alternate, and a batting practice. A look at the three new lids for 2017:
The road and batting practice caps both feature the closeup of Luggy’s face, the new alternate cap isolates the scripted “L” mark from the official Lugnuts wordmark onto a black crown with a red bill.
“The process was intense and long but very exciting at the same time,” Lugnuts assistant director of retail Matt Hicks was quoted as saying in the official press release. “After our graphic artist came up with the initial designs, both Minor League Baseball and New Era were very supportive from the start and helped us meet every deadline during the logo approval process.”
“I believe we have some of the best logos in the minor leagues but I’m thrilled to see us adding to an already strong selection”
There has also been a shuffling of designations of some of the caps leftover from 2016, the all black home cap will now be an alternate lid while last seasons road cap (red crown, black bill) is now the home cap. Here’s their entire lineup for the upcoming season:
Caps aren’t the only thing changing for the Lugnuts this season, the team also announced today that they will be unveiling new home, road, and batting practice uniforms on April 8th at the ballpark three hours before their home opener, the event will be open to the public.
