Golden Knights Add Inaugural Season Patch, Memorial Decal

The Vegas Golden Knights will be playing the first real game in their franchise history tonight, a 5:30pm (Vegas time) start on the road in Dallas, Texas against the Stars.

Today the team surprised us with a photo posted to their official Instagram account showing that they’d be wearing an inaugural season patch on their jerseys during the season. We had seen an inaugural season logo floating around (I bought a puck featuring the logo at T-Mobile Arena this past June) but we were not expecting to see it on the in-game jerseys.

An inaugural season jersey patch has been worn previously by the Winnipeg Jets in 2011-12 for their first season after relocation and the Columbus Blue Jackets wore one in 2000-01. The Atlanta Thrashers wore an inaugural season patch not on their jersey but on their pant leg in 1999-2000 while the Nashville Predators simply added a “98” to their usual shoulder patch for their first season in 1998-99, if you want to count that as an inaugural season patch you can. The Wild didn’t note their first season with anything special, nor did any team to join the league prior to the Predators.

The Golden Knights also shared a photo showing a “Vegas Strong” decal which will be worn on the back of their helmets, the decal pays tribute to the victims of the mass shooting in Las Vegas earlier this week. The logo is a map of Nevada with a silhouette of the Las Vegas skyline, the Golden Knights alternate logo showing the location of Las Vegas on the map.

Vegas will play their first two games away from home, their road trip continues tomorrow at Arizona, they’ll make their home debut at T-Mobile Arena next Tuesday against those very same Coyotes.
