MLB Unveils 2018 Holiday Caps and Jerseys

Major League Baseball this afternoon released the 120 cap and 67 jersey designs which will be worn during holiday weekends throughout the upcoming 2018 regular season. In addition to the holiday uniforms a special patch has been created to be worn on caps and jerseys for Jackie Robinson Day on April 15th.

Starting with the holiday uniforms, special caps will be worn for Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, and the Fourth of July weekends as has been the case the past several seasons. However, unlike the last two seasons seasons not all of these holidays will get their own special jerseys — Mother’s and Father’s Day reverting to their pre-2016 style of just adding blue or pink ribbon to the top left corner of the jersey. Memorial Day and the Fourth of July will both still have special designs but they are very similar to what was worn last year.

Why the lack of variation in jersey design this season? Could be because of in preparation for the transition from Majestic Athletic to Under Armour as league-wide jersey provider, the 2018 season is Majestic’s final year manufacturing jerseys for Major League Baseball.

Starting in chronological order…

Mother’s Day: May 13, 2018

Mother’s Day caps will feature a pink heathered pattern on the crown with team logos re-coloured to match, for the most part bills and pills are black with a few exceptions, several teams are using royal or navy blue, the Angels are red, the A’s are green.

As mentioned earlier, no special jersey designs for Mother’s Day this year, just the addition of a pink ribbon.

And the 2018 sock design:

All proceeds from the sale of Mother’s Day merchandise will go to Susan G. Komen Foundation to fight breast cancer.

Memorial Day Weekend: May 26 – 28, 2018

An all-new look for Memorial Day caps this year, the crowns featuring a black camouflage pattern, bills are camo green and cap logos coloured to match. Each U.S. team cap, jersey, and sock features five stars on the side to represent the five branches of the military; the Toronto Blue Jays will have four maple leaves on side of the cap for the four branches of the Canadian military.

The template used for the jersey design is the same as we saw last year, but some teams are choosing different jerseys to wear with this style — the Royals and Dbacks for example. A closer look at the jersey design followed by a league-wide look at the full set.

And the socks:

As is the case with the Fourth of July, all proceeds from the sale of Memorial Day merchandise will go to MLB Charities and used to support programs for service men and women, veterans and military families.

Father’s Day: June 17, 2018

Similar to the design used for Mother’s Day, caps feature the same heathered look on the crowns but now in powder blue with varying colours used for the bills – mostly black with a few royal/navy blues and the A’s and Angels doing their own thing.

Jerseys are the standard team design but with a blue ribbon added to the top left corner:

And the socks:

Proceeds from Father’s Day sales will go to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

Fourth of July: July 2 – 4, 2018

Caps for Fourth of July weekend this year are either red or navy blue depending on what each team chose, logos on the front will be gold and have a stars-and-stripes flag pattern added to them along with the American or National League logo on the side, neat.  The Toronto Blue Jays will simply have a gold logo without the American flag pattern.

Inside the visor we see a “We The People” design and a flag pattern, the Blue Jays get a Canadian flag:

As with Memorial Day, the jersey design is the same as last season:

And the two together across the league:

Same sock design as last season:

Like Memorial Day, proceeds of Fourth of July merchandise sales go to MLB Charities to support programs for service men and women, veterans and military families.

Jackie Robinson Day: April 15, 2018

Finally, on Jackie Robinson Day this season teams will be doing a little more than wearing Jackie’s famous number 42 on their backs, they’ll also wear it on their sleeves, caps, and socks with a new #42 logo:
