When the Double-A Springfield Cardinals take the field for ’90s night Saturday, their uniforms will feature a design element familiar to anyone who ever attended a picnic, party, or any other event with disposable dinnerware during that teal-splashed decade.
The teal and purple scrawls across their jerseys derive from the iconic “Jazz” design unveiled by the Sweetheart Cup Company in 1989. And there’s a local connection to the ubiquitous design: It was created by Gina Ekiss of Aurora, Missouri, just over 30 miles away from the Cardinals’ home in Springfield.
The jerseys will be auctioned off during the game to benefit GYN Cancers Alliance.
