Sharks Switch to Stealth Mode with New Alternate Uniform

Out of the dark depths of the Pacific Ocean, the San Jose Sharks new alternate third uniform appears.

Introduced late last night on-ice in-between periods of a pre-season game (probably the best way to unveil one of these things, by the way), the new uniform is black with teal stripes and “tonal” logos on the chest and shoulders. The uniform matches the leaked photo from a retailer that SportsLogos.Net was able to confirm last week.

The Sharks are calling it their “Stealth Jersey” due to its colours and re-coloured logos, all traces of orange from their primary logo on the chest has been eliminated aside from the eye of the shark, replaced with black and teal, even the hockey stick is now teal. The team’s classic shark-fin logo returns for the first time in over a decade, also re-coloured. The popular secondary logo graced the shoulder of the Sharks uniforms from their inaugural season in 1991 through 1998 and then returned for their alternate uniform from 2002 to 2007.

It’s not all about the “stealth” with this new set, there’s also a nod to the San Jose area’s important role in the world of technological advances with the addition of a subtle microchip pattern in between the two teal sleeve stripes; they’re saying the pattern forms a series of “SJ” marks although I couldn’t easily spot this in the photos I was provided, I’m sure it’s easier to see in person. The incorporation of this microchip pattern is also to establish the Sharks as “the team of the future”.

This is the third different black alternate uniform San Jose has worn during their nearly thirty seasons as an NHL franchise – the first black design was worn from 2001-07, and the second from 2008-17.

San Jose will wear their new “Stealth” jerseys thirteen times in the upcoming 2018-19 season, the first on October 18th against the Buffalo Sabres. Here’s the full schedule:
