This past weekend, we basically received confirmation of what would be the Atlanta Hawks’ new primary logo when the design was spotted on things from hats, to websites, and even McDonald’s cups. The logo was all over the place, which made it hard to dispute that this was the new primary logo.
Well, on Monday, the Hawks made it official: This is indeed their new primary logo. In addition, they also assigned the solo Pac-Man logo to “partial primary” status and also officially unveiled the “Firebird” logo as a secondary logo.
Here’s a bit from the Hawks’ press release concerning the “Firebird:”
The Hawks also unveiled a completely new secondary logo that pays tribute to the history of the city of Atlanta. The wings of a Hawk lift a basketball engulfed in flames, symbolizing how the city of Atlanta rose from the ashes to become one of the nation’s leading international cities.
In the very next paragraph, the Hawks announced that they’d be unveiling “the most modern and cutting-edge” uniforms in the NBA sometime before the NBA Draft. If that’s the case, then we might already have an idea of what to expect thanks to not only the Christmas Day uniform leaks, but this pattern from the background of the Hawks’ membership page as well:
There’s a very good chance that we’ll see that pattern sublimated on the uniforms, so stay tuned to see if that turns out to be correct. Also, we’ve got a look at a new “ATL” script logo that wasn’t officially unveiled, but was placed on the back of a low-crown hat. There’s no word on how this script logo will be utilized, but we’ll see what they do going forward.
