Blue Jays, Red Sox to Honour Canada on Uniforms Today

Blue Jays Canada Day Uniform 2015

“It’s Canada Day up Canada way on the first day of July, and we’re shoutin’ “hooray!” up Canada way, when the maple leaf flies high”… the words of the apparently mortal, late, great Stompin’ Tom Connors.

The Toronto Blue Jays will be hosting the Boston Red Sox this afternoon in their annual Canada Day game at the Rogers Centre, Toronto will – as is usually the case – be decked out in special red-and-white uniforms, it’s a new design this season:

White is the predominant colour for the first time this century. There is red trim around the collar and cuffs, player name and number are both red, and the team wordmark is arched across the front in red and white. A Canadian flag is on the jersey sleeve. Cap will be the “alternate batting practice” cap, red with a red maple leaf outlined in white.

Boston is reportedly also joining in, according to two different sources the Red Sox will be wearing a Canadian flag patch on their jersey for the game. A nice gesture which the Jays will return when they play in Detroit while wearing an American flag on Saturday.

Just a Photoshopped guess at what they’ll be wearing… they could go with their Friday red home alternate jersey too, but probably not.

This will mark only the second time a Major League club *other* than Toronto has worn a Canadian flag patch on their uniform, before today the Philadelphia Phillies were the only team to do so when they wore a flag on their cap for their July 1st game at Toronto in 2006:
