Florida State Seminoles Announce Return Of White Uniform Numbers

During Florida State’s 68th annual kickoff luncheon on Friday afternoon, head coach Willie Taggart announced the Seminoles will bring back white numbers on their garnet home jerseys in 2020.

Florida State moved away from white numbers with a department-wide rebrand in 2014, a decision that was very unpopular among fans of the program because of the similarities to Boston College’s primary look. The gold numbers were also featured on the road uniforms, but changed after just one game because of legibility issues.

Given the Seminoles swapped out the numbers on their road set in a fairly reasonable amount of time, one might think the program could do the same on their current uniforms and have them ready for the upcoming season. It’s more likely, though, that the team decided against it given they’ll probably switch from Nike’s six-year-old Mach Speed template to the new Vapor Fusion template next fall.

In addition to the forthcoming design changes, Taggart also announced Florida State will wear its traditional gold helmets, garnet jersey and gold pants at home and gold helmets, white jerseys and white pants on the road — something the Seminoles did regularly up until 1958 but roughly only a dozen times since.

“That is Florida State,” Taggart said. “That is what we are going to be.”
