Los Angeles Kings Unveil Silver Alternate Uniform

The Los Angeles Kings have officially unveiled their new alternate third uniform, ten days after an image of it leaked via the NHL International Shop.

Borrowing most of its elements from the popular 50th anniversary uniform the team wore during the 2016-17 season, the uniform is silver with a black shoulder yoke, two black stripes on either sleeve and one at the waist. On the chest is the Kings primary logo featuring a shield (or is it a royal pennant?) with “LA” in white and a crown at the bottom. Laces at the collar and a purple/gold inner collar design featuring two crowns.

There is some symbolism here, the two stripes on each arm are for the team’s two Stanley Cup wins, the two crowns in the collar also pay tribute to the Kings championships. The single stripe at the waist is a nod to the original Kings uniforms as is the use of purple and gold inside that collar. Overall the jersey features five stripes, one for each decade of Los Angeles Kings hockey.

There are some slight differences between this Kings jersey and what they wore in 2017, aside from moving from Reebok Edge to Adidas Adizero the crest on the chest now uses the primary logo instead of the 50th anniversary logo, there are no longer any patches on the shoulders, and gold has been eliminated entirely.

The Kings wore similar uniforms for their 50th anniversary during the 2016-17 season

The Kings will debut their new alternate uniform on November 24th at home against the Vancouver Canucks, the Kings will wear it fourteen times in 2018-19 including for two games on the road in late December.
