Louisville Cardinals To Wear 1974-75 Throwback Uniforms

The Louisville men’s basketball team will wear throwback uniforms during Saturday’s game against Clemson (2 p.m. ET on FOX Sports South) to commemorate the 45th anniversary of its 1974-75 Final Four appearance.

The Cardinals posted a 28-3 record and won the Missouri Valley Conference that season, beating three top-15 teams on their way to the national semifinal where they fell, 75-74, in overtime to top-ranked and eventual national champion UCLA. That gave the Bruins’ their 10th title in 12 seasons under legendary head coach John Wooden, who coincidently announced his retirement in the postgame press conference following the win over Louisville.

The team will be honored at halftime of the game against the Tigers, and several former players are expected to be in attendance including All-Americans Allen Murphy and Junior Bridgeman. Murphy was the Cardinals’ leading scorer, averaging 16.3 points as a senior, and scored in double figures a school-record 57 straight games. Bridgeman, meanwhile, pitched in 16.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.

Now aside from the ACC patch and adidas logos on the shoulder and waistband, the throwback uniforms are an exact replica of what Louisville wore at home in 1974-75. It features a black wordmark and numbers outlined in red on a white jersey, with contrasting side panels that run down the length of the jersey and shorts.

The look is complete with an ornithologically correct cardinal on the shorts, which only appeared on the basketball team’s uniforms for one season
