Nebraska Cornhuskers pay tribute to 1997 football team with mesh-numbered jerseys

Can you believe that 1997 was 20 years ago? It seems like it was just yesterday that the Nebraska Cornhuskers were a feared powerhouse in college football that was busy running through their competition like a buzzsaw. They rolled their way to a 13-0 record and a co-national championship while wearing Adidas uniforms that were of the highest quality back then — and by high quality, that meant mesh jerseys.

Fast forward to 2017 and while Nebraska is no longer the feared powerhouse that they once were, they’re still a very proud program with a storied history to fall back on. That includes the 1997 team, and they’re celebrating the 20th anniversary of that undefeated team with special uniforms.

When it comes to the overall design, there’s not much difference between this and what the Huskers wear on normal gamedays right now. However, this is pretty close when compared to what the team wore back in 1997 — right down to the “mesh” numbers.

The faux mesh numbers are definitely the most interesting part of this, and it’s definitely a unique design idea to implement on a football uniform. If you’re going to romanticize the days of mesh jerseys while still keeping the uniform technology of the present-day, then this is a creative way to get it done.

Nebraska will wear these for one game — on October 7 against the Wisconsin Badgers. So, are you all looking forward to seeing these uniforms in action soon? Are you a fan of the faux-mesh look?
