Penguins Unveil Yellow Jerseys for Stadium Series

Penguins Stadium Series Jersey 2017

The Pittsburgh Penguins will be wearing “Pittsburgh Gold” (i.e. yellow) uniforms for the first time since the 1980s when they take the ice outdoors at Heinz Field for their 2017 Stadium Series game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Pittsburgh’s uniform is yellow with black sleeves, one yellow stripe on each sleeve breaks up the black, shoulders are also yellow.

Penguins Triangle Captain Patch 2017

The crest on the front of the jersey is the standard Penguins logo with the familiar yellow triangle removed. This is the first time Pittsburgh will wear a penguin outside of a triangle in team history. Triangle fans need not worry, as it’s not being used as a captain/alternate captain patch.

An additional patch featuring a keystone design (a common symbol of Pennsylvania) is on the left sleeve, centred on the single yellow stripe. The patch incorporates two crossed hockey sticks with “CITY OF CHAMPIONS” in white. Four yellow stars (presumably symbolic of the Penguins four Stanley Cups) are above.

Penguins Collar Stadium Series

Collar is black with a splash of white where the NHL shield rests. No laces.

The big wins here for a Stadium Series game — embroidered crest, no chrome, no unrealistic futuristic nonsense. This is a borderline fauxback jersey that really could work in any era of the game.

Keep in mind we haven’t seen the name/number style yet. So. There’s still an opportunity for there to be some problems.

Overall, a good look!

The Penguins will host the Flyers at the Stadium Series on February 25, 2017.
