Phoenix Suns add second sleeved jersey to uniform set

During the weekend, the Phoenix Suns announced that they would be revealing a new alternate jersey to be unveiled on February 25th. Well, we’ve hit the 25th day of February and as promised, the Suns have rolled out a new alternate jersey, which is dubbed their #PHXRising jersey. Naturally, since it’s 2015, the team gave fans their first look via snapchat.

Gray is definitely the “in” color right now, and the Suns have definitely hopped on the trend with this one. Sleeved jerseys are a thing right now, and this will be the second sleeved jersey in Phoenix’s set (alongside that beautiful orange jersey which is, IMO, the best sleeved jersey in the NBA right now). To top off the trendy look, the Suns have brought back an old wordmark and  mixed it with their current number font. So, it’s a sort-of-throwback but not quite a fauxback. Still, some would call it a fauxback so that makes it 3 trends that the Suns have utilized with this look. Amazing.

“One of the things we were trying to do is make sure all the uniforms we’re building have some sort of legacy to the history of the Phoenix Suns,” said Greg Fisher, the creative mind behind the uniform. “We used the Old West type because it was part of the legacy.”

That iconic western font is emblazoned on the front of the new jersey in black lettering, outlined in the bold orange that has become synonymous with the Suns over the decades. The lettering is nearly identical to that used in one of the first iterations of the team’s jersey from 1973-1992.

So, what do you think? Is this a worthwhile addition to Phoenix’s solid uniform set, or should they have kept this baby in the oven? Or do you agree with Suns legend Tom Chambers?
