Pitt Panthers will make their transition to classic script logo official today

Pitt helmet
This move has been a long time in the making. Two years ago, the Pitt Panthers football team unveiled new helmets with their classic script logo in the current school colors for a Homecoming game. They decided to keep the helmet for the rest of the season, and that has eventually resulted in the school adapting the classic script logo as their “new” athletic mark for the future.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that the school will make their transition to the script logo official later today in an official unveiling. Here’s more from the report:

The return of the beloved script logo, which served as the school’s primary athletic mark from 1973-1996, will be celebrated with a public fashion show at 6:30 p.m. today in the Petersen Events Center lobby. On Tuesday, ahead of the unveiling, the university announced the renaming of its Twitter and Instagram accounts.

“We are excited to make the full transition back to the script logo,” athletic director Scott Barnes said in a statement. “Not only will this move help unify our branding efforts, it also gives us an opportunity to celebrate the amazing history of Pitt Athletics. Wednesday’s event will give Panther fans an opportunity to see some impressive Pitt apparel as well as some of the other exciting improvements we currently have underway.”

Again, this move has been a long time coming, and it’s clear that the fanbase is extremely excited to see this logo make its return in the current colors.

Pitt

I’m pretty excited to see what Pitt comes up with as far as uniforms and gear are concerned. What about you? Do you think that this is a good move for Pitt to make, or are you going to miss the old “block” mark?
