Penguins Pittsburgh Gold Returns

The Penguins originally wore this style of uniform from 1979/80 until 1991/92. They made the switch mid-way through the 1979/80 season to celebrate the championships of both the Pittsburgh Pirates (1979 World Series) and Pittsburgh Steelers (Super Bowl XIV) by replicating their colour schemes.

Prior to the switch the Penguins had worn baby blue jerseys since their expansion season.

The hockey club would eventually win their own title in these colours in 1991 and again in 1992. Following the 1992 season the uniforms and logos were completely re-designed but the colours remained until 2002/03.
