Tomorrow is Game of Thrones Night in Durham. The Bulls, triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, will take the field in jerseys that offer a unique take on a theme night based on a TV show or book.

According to the team, “Rather than throw the Bulls into a jersey garnered with faux chain mail, this jersey is designed as a modern day, real-world version of how a prominent Game of Thrones family might dress should they find themselves playing baseball.”

bullsigilThe team’s “sigil”—Game of Thrones-speak for a logo—features a bull with seven stars. That number seven has significance for both the Bulls and in the mythology of Game of Thrones. “The seven stars below the bull mirror the seven stars on the the City of Durham’s flag,” the team said. “Seven is also a big number in Game of Thrones: Seven Kingdoms, the Faith of the Seven.”

The jerseys will be auctioned off after the game to benefit the Durham Bulls Youth Athletic League, which provides free recreational baseball to children in the city. The team would not confirm whether any player caught lollygagging around the infield, lollygagging down to first, or lollygagging in and out of the dugout would have their severed head posted on a stake on the outside of town, so we’re going to assume that’s part of the promotion, too.
