Two New Caps and a New Jersey for Nationals in 2020

The World Series Champs will be taking the field in some new threads next season according to a series of new items added to the official shop of Major League Baseball.

In 2020, the Washington Nationals will have two new alternate caps and a new alternate uniform to choose from. The two caps both feature designs based on logos worn by Washington’s two American League baseball teams of the 1950s and 1960s and both have a white front panel.

The jersey and one of the two new caps were worn last season during Spring Training.

“That means they’re not new!” someone in the back shouted. Okay, sure, that’s true I suppose, but the big deal here is that now this uniform will be worn whenever they want during the regular season (and playoffs) rather than just during those practice tilts in February and March down in beautiful West Palm Beach. Plus you’re also ignoring that other completely new cap which the team had never worn before.

Here’s what’s new for the Champs in 2020:

As mentioned earlier, we saw that one cap (top right) and the jersey last year during Spring Training games, never during the regular season. The cap is an homage to the logo of the old Washington Senators team from the American League (now the Minnesota Twins) which featured a “W” on the U.S. Capitol Dome in Washington. The jersey is a white version of the lucky blues the team wore throughout the 2019 NLCS and World Series.

While the MLB Shop photo of the new jersey does not show any cresting, we’ve been told this jersey will include a number on the front of the jersey just as it did during Spring Training in 2019.

The other new cap, also with the white panel but with red on either side incorporates a revised version of the 1961-71 Washington Senators (now Texas Rangers) primary logo.

As you can see there is a difference, the U.S. Capitol Building has been replaced with a “W”. The 1961-71 logo in the graphic above was never worn on a cap by the Senators 2.0, that team wore the same curly W, red cap design as the present-day Nationals.
