US Soccer to Celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month with Rainbow Numbers

pridejersey-headerThe US Men’s and Women’s National Soccer Teams will commemorate LGBTQ Pride Month with rainbow numbers on their jerseys in June. The men’s team will wear the jerseys June 3 in Sandy, Utah, for a World Cup Qualifying tune-up against Venezuela. The women will sport the look on the road during friendlies in Sweden and Norway June 8 and 11 respectively.

The jerseys are the result of a partnership between the men’s and women’s players’ associations and the You Can Play Project, “an organization dedicated to ensuring equality, respect and safety for all athletes, coaches, and fans without regard for sexual orientation and/or gender identity.”

Game-worn jerseys will be auctioned and “One Nation. One Team” merchandise will be sold at ussoccerstore.com, with proceeds benefiting the You Can Play Project.

The US National Soccer Team has a history of supporting LGBTQ causes. After the 2016 Pulse Night Club shooting in Orlando, men’s captain Michael Bradley wore and then auctioned off a “One Nation” armband, raising more than $5,600 to benefit OneOrlando Fund and Equality Florida.
