10 Smaller European Countries Get New 2024-26 Kits Thanks to UEFA Kit Assistance Scheme

After a successful first outing together in 2022, UEFA and Italian sportswear manufacturer Erreà have teamed up once again for another round of the UEFA Kit Assistance Scheme.

The program has been around since 2007, and “enables associations that lack sufficient bargaining power with kit suppliers to play in top-calibre clothing featuring bespoke designs tailored to represent their own national identities and cultures.”

Ten countries are participating in the 2024-26 cycle of the Kit Assistance Scheme, including newcomers Kosovo and Kazakhstan. The football associations met with Erreà officials at the company’s headquarters in late September 2023 to choose from a wide range of models and convey the specific needs of their national teams and parts of their history and tradition that they wanted to see reflected in their new kits.

“With the dawn of this second two-year period, we aim to heighten our collaboration with the national teams and make significant progress in the design and presentation of the kits,” said Erreà president Angelo Gandolfi. “We want to take our partnership with the football associations to new levels, offering innovative solutions and meeting their ever-increasing expectations.”

Here are the new designs and what Erreà had to say about each of them (well, almost):

With a red background, the home shirt features original blue and yellow geometric triangular graphics which, along with the base colour, is not only a reminder of the national colours but also a clear tribute to Andorra’s mountains. The original V-neck and sleeve trims are blue. This colour is repeated on the back of the collar, on which the initials of the Federation, “FAF” are printed in yellow while the inner collar features the wording ‘#SomAndorra’.

The away kit, instead, is bright yellow with the same attractive geometric pattern, but this time placed more dynamically on the right side, in blue and red. A keen eye will notice how the background stripes in matching colour recall those of the Federation’s shield. The shirt has a V-neck, blue sleeve trims and the same writing as the home shirt on the inside and on the back.

The home shirt, with a crimson background, is embellished with a traditional Belarusian symbol, reproduced tone-on-tone over the entire body of the shirt. A touch of originality is offered by the shoulder adornment in a different colour, mint green, that creates a distinctive visual contrast.

The away kit, with a mint green background, has the same graphic pattern as the main kit, ensuring stylistic continuity with a sophisticated change of colour.

Cyprus’s kits for 2024-26 have a bit more embellishment than their 2022-24 kits, but still remain pretty traditional. Both the blue home kit and the white away kit have contrasting horizontal chalk stripes across the front that fade out at the edges and offset diagonally as they move down the shirt. They also feature contrasting collar and sleeve cuffs, and a gold Erreà logo on the chest.

The three shirts stand out for their elegant and essential lines, all characterised by the same design. Each shirt features a central vertical stripe in three different colours, which, combined on different backgrounds, represent the national flag: white for the home shirt, blue for the away shirt, and black for the third shirt.

The V-neck and sleeve trims vary in colour depending on the shirt. On the back of the collar there is the flag of the Atlantic archipelago. Erreà’s logo is in the centre of the chest, while the Association’s logo is on the left side.

The match kits combine art, history, and functionality: the first jersey features a yellow base symbolizing the sun and energy. The stylized traditional Kazakh ornaments in the background serve as talismans, representing the luck, power, and strength of the Kazakh people.

The jersey has a crew neck and blue sleeve edges, with the Erreà logo on the right chest and the Federation emblem on the left, along with the Kazakh flag reproduced on the back of the neck.

The second and third kits maintain the same graphic design, in blue and black respectively, still featuring a crew neck with the flag on the back.

Minimalist and with a bright blue background, the home shirt bears the outline of the territory, as illustrated on the national flag. The sleeves and the crew neck have a blue trim, and the flag appears on the back of the collar. On the right there is the logo of the Italian brand, while on the left side, over the heart, there is the Federation’s logo.

The second shirt has the same style on a white background, embellished with blue details.

Finally, on the third black shirt, the profile of the territory is reinterpreted from an alternative perspective and enriched with golden details.

Liechtenstein’s blue home kit features white vertical pinstripes, while the red away kit turns them horizontally. Both the home and away kit have slightly different shades of blue or red in between the stripes. The third kit flips the script, with gold pinstripes on a white base. It also features blue, red and gold striping on the sleeve cuffs, a variation from the white cuffs on the other kits. A crown, representing the nation’s status as a constitutional monarchy headed by the Prince of Liechtenstein, sits on the left chest of all three kits. A similar crown appears on the country’s flag.

These kits aim to embody national pride, combining style and practicality in an attractive design.

The home jersey has a deep red background, embellished with the lion, the country’s heraldic symbol, repeated tone-on-tone. The V-neck is edged in red, while the sleeves are edged in white and blue, a tribute to the colours of the national flag.

The away shirt has a bright blue background with a striking light blue and red smudge effect pattern on the left side. The contrast between the background and the patches of colour creates a striking visual effect. The sleeve edging featuring the colours red, white and blue, and the blue V-neck add a lively touch to the overall design.

The third shirt has a white background on which the lion, the heraldic symbol, is repeated tone-on-tone like on the home shirt. The V-neck is edged in white, while the sleeves are edged in red and light blue, recalling the national colours.

What the three shirts have in common is the presence, on the back of the collar, of the national flag, together with the logo of the Italian brand embroidered on the right side of the chest and the coat of arms of Luxembourg on the left, over the heart.

The home shirt, with a red background, is characterised by the repetition, in matching colours, of the St. John’s Cross, also known as the Maltese cross, and by the presence of white side bands. The ribbed collar and sleeves are red, with the same characteristic cross on the back of the collar. The Italian brand logo is located on the right side of the chest, while the Association’s logo is on the left, over the heart.

The away kit features the same tone-on-tone design but with a reversed colour combination, including the details of the collar, sleeves and side bands.

Both the home and away shirts bear the phrase ‘Lil din l-art Helwa’, the title of the national anthem, in the inner collar.

🇸🇲 SAN MARINO 🇸🇲

The new shirts represent not only a change in the visual landscape of the San Marino national football team, but also a tribute to its rich history and cultural roots.

The home shirt is a tribute to the national flag, giving it a distinctive and instantly recognisable identity through a design that harmonises the predominant white with an effective shade of blue extending towards the chest.

The away shirt, characterised by different shades of dark blue, stands out for its clear links with the San Marino community and the surrounding area. The pixelated pattern of the shirt evokes the borders of the Republic of San Marino, creating a distinctive and symbolic element in the overall design.

Both new shirts, in addition to having a V-neck, feature a customised neck tape on the inside with the words ‘L’antica terrà della libertà’ (the ancient land of freedom), the historic epithet of the Republic of San Marino.
