Happy Friday morning everyone, hope you all had a great week – certainly was a busy week at SportsLogos.Net with the news about the Whiteout and Royals trademarks being filed by various Canadian based hockey teams; we also launched a new search engine on the main site, give it a shot next time you’re on SportsLogos.Net.
Time for an update of what’s going on in the world of sports logos and uniforms over the last few days.
- As you can see above, we have the logo for next year’s Memorial Cup – to be held in Shawinigan, Quebec – we’ve only seen the French version so far. This is also the first Quebec hosted Memorial Cup to include a poppy, the only Cup logo in the past 6 years to not include the poppy was the 2009 tournament held in Rimouski, Quebec
- The Winnipeg NHL team won’t be called the Whiteout, as we thought it will end up being used for potential playoff appearances by the team
- In other Winnipeg NHL news they will not be getting the Jets history even if they take the identity, True North is concerned about having a team named after the history of another team – and, yes, that would be weird. NHL VP Bill Daly was in Winnipeg reviewing the various name options the club is considering.
- Sticking in the Great White North the Canadian Olympic Team has re-branded, going for a more simple look – you can see all their new logos and marks here.
- ESPN’s Monday Night Football has a new logo in place for the upcoming NFL season, if there is one of course
- In Major League Soccer news the LA Galaxy will be unveiling their new third/alternate jerseys/kits on July 1 and will wear them for the first time on Independence Day.
- Future MLS club, the Montreal Impact, will be keeping their name but changing their logo – we’ll keep you posted on the design when it comes out, or sooner
- NCAA’s Mountain West Conference has a new logo and opinions are pretty negative, take a look at it and share your thoughts
- The Central Hockey League’s Colorado Eagles have announced they will be jumping leagues and taking their talents to the ECHL in time for next season
- And the Louisiana Ice Gators of the SPHL have unveiled their new logo; quite the improvement!
