We usually don’t get our first glimpse of it until late April, but this year we may have gotten an earlier look at Major League Baseball’s 2012 World Series logo and their other post-season graphics such as the ALCS, NLCS, ALDS, and NLDS logos.
What you see above is a screenshot from the recent PlayStation3 video game MLB12: The Show when your team enters the post-season.
A full shot of the entire playoff bracket including the other playoff logos below:
What you’ll notice is the logos are lacking a season which makes one consider the possibility that the logo be a generic graphic created by Sony to use in their game over multiple-seasons. A theory I considered solid until looking at a screenshot of the playoff bracket from last year’s edition of the game MLB11: The Show
As you can see that is indeed the 2011 playoff logo package with year removed.
The year in the logo appears along the banners at the top, with the “20” on the left and “12” on the right – you can see the logo with the year included on-field when playing which I wasn’t able to snap a screenshot of.
So is this the 2012 World Series logo? I’d have to say it is.
What do I think?
It’s okay… but I prefer the logos of the past few seasons personally (2008, 2009, and 2010 are my favourites of this century) what I do like is the continued recent tradition of the autumn leaves in the logo we’ve seen every year since 2008.
Below are some other screenshots of the other post-season logos for 2012 I spotted in the game while playing last night, click any of them for a larger version:
And for those who just had to know; the Marlins beat the Mariners in five to take the title.
