UND Fighting Sioux debut new look

The University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux took to the ice this weekend, their first since NCAA began enforcing their “no Native American imagery” rule forcing the team to wear new logo and nickname-less uniforms.

The uniforms aren’t actually too bad; they are green and white with a hint of black featuring NORTH DAKOTA on the front with a number separating the two words. Shoulders are green with an interlocking “ND” logo, white laces on the collar.  It looks traditional in design yet still modern in colour.

The university has also produced, yet has not unveiled, a road green and alternate black version of the uniform.

Bob Jones University Debuts Name, Logo

Bob Jones University, the Greenville, South Carolina based Protestant University is re-entering inter-collegiate sports for the first time in 79 years for the 2012-13 season  and with that came the need for a name and logo.

On Friday, BJU officials announced the school would compete as the Bruins beginning with NCCAA (the extra C is for “Christian”) soccer in August. The logo features a brown and navy blue bear head peering over a BRUINS wordmark with light blue trim.

BJU athletic director Neal Ring said, “The mascot is a strong character that exudes boldness and confidence. It’s a great rallying point around which BJU fans can unite to support and encourage our teams and actually provide them a competitive advantage.”

UK Already 0-for-3 in 2012 Olympics

First it was the bizarre 2012 Summer Olympic logo, then it was the pink and purple volunteers uniforms; now the public has taken aim at the Team Great Britain athlete uniforms freshly unveiled this weekend.

The uniforms were designed by fashion designer Stella McCartney and unveiled Thursday – they feature the Union Jack, the national flag of the United Kingdom, re-coloured from royal blue and red to blue, light blue and dark navy blue.

“Oh dear! Stella, Stella – did you not think of asking ANYONE on a UK street if they thought it was reasonable for you to take the red off our Union Jack?” wrote one Facebook commenter on The Daily Mail.

Stella responded to the criticism via this message on her Twitter account: “I see many feel as strongly about the Union flag as I do! The design actually uses more red & shows more flag t an any Team GB kit since ’84.”
