I have to agree with you. I was there to see the Blackhawks play on February 1st (for those who don’t remember, that was when that huge winter storm rolled through pretty much everywhere) and even with the weather there was good attendance and the arena was one of the best I’ve visited. I really wish, just as a fan of the game, that Columbus would have a Cinderella season soon.

on topic: It would have been nice if they had picked something more meaningful to the host team, maybe tie in the cannon.

Pretty high level of ignorance about Columbus as a town AND a hockey market is on display here. However poorly run the team is (and it is), Columbus loves hockey. Attendance for a 30 place team was still at 80%. This is with a team that was out of it in November. Few other teams in the US could sustain this (Pittsburgh, Chicago as two examples of teams that couldn’t fill 60% of their arenas at certain points). There were probably 2000 people at the logo unveiling…midday on a Friday no less.

Columbus is excited about the ASG, it’s a great town with great hockey fans. Instead of spouting off on a forum, why not come see one of the best arenas, and arena districts in the NHL? Experience it for yourself.

Events like the ASG are fantastic for teams that may not be enjoying the success of the postseason. The arena will sell out no matter where this is held, and Columbus has great convention facilities for all of the side activities.

It’s a shame how many people develop opinions about a place without any real knowledge whatsoever.

on topic: the logo could be better, but it’s not horrible. can’t wait to see the jersey designs.

Keep giving non-hockey towns like Columbus, Atlanta and North Carolina ASGs and give a middle finger to teams that eat and breathe hockey like Philly, Toronto, Detroit, Vancouver, etc.

Because giving areas that couldn’t raise a finger about hockey an ASG is totally going to make the NHL a lot more money than putting one in the areas that I listed above.

Next up should be Phoenix (hopefully as a reward for a new ownership group)
