This is just to make people believe it is a honest operation, like this year’s Spurs phantom merchandising. OKC playing Miami caters to the taste of the target group: young urban professionals with deep pockets and short memories who love highly visible, high speed athletic teams with young stars, just slightly younger than themselves. So they can still think: it could have been me down on that parquet floor. Identification is a big part of fandom in all sports, but in the NBA the difference in age between the performer and the consumer should be as small as possible in order to sell the most. The Spurs and the Celtics were simply too old and too slow for the current NBA fan demographics. Things are different in the other major sports leagues (especially MLB), where families are the target group and the age correspondence does not count that much in identification. I know this is a silly conspiracy theory, but please prove me wrong, dear mister Stern. I have been predicting the playoffs correctly for the last five seasons and there is really a pattern going on. But enough of all that , this is a logo site after all (and the best one).
