Take the 1928 uniform with the navy jersey with the white stripe on the chest and the brown pants and brown helmet. Put a navy stripe and the PSU lion in profile logo on the helmet and you’ve got a hell of a uniform: both traditional and modern, Moving on from the JoePa era but staying rooted in history.

Change means change and in this case, if I had my druthers Penn State would not only change their uniforms, but their nickname, their colors and the campus name. I don’t think anything relating to their past should be remembered – it’s like using the rear-view mirror to drive backwards down a highway.

BTW, I’m a Penn State alum, and a most-disappointed one.

i think they should change their unis to the 1928 look and name the campaign “reclaim the stripe” just to start $#!T with northwestern. jk.

i actually don’t think they should change their look. that uniform preceeds the scandal and if they went with a new uni at this point it would kind of create an identity that people would associate solely with this era.

In reply to Mike J. I think Penn State should keep their traditional colors, but add their nice Nittany-Lion-in-a football logo to thier helmets. In that way, they give a bow to their tradition, while at the same time giving an indication that they are moving on and modernizing a little. This "generic uniform" stuff has gone on way too long.

I thought they should change their uniforms way before this happend. Saying they wore those uniforms 50 years ago and its their history is like saying the American flag should still have 13 stars because thats how it was 200 years ago.

I think Chris and JR Should make there own idea of how the uniform should look. jk But i agree with Chris. PSU needs something to draw people to go there after this horrible scandal. But I can see how they have had these uniforms for a while and they need to keep their tradition. But I think new unis would be the best bet.

I say they should go back to the uniform layout from 1928. So many college football teams are starting to bring back the old, retro uniforms back into modern day.

I like the idea of a uniform change, but I am certainly not for the designs that have made me hate Nike (see about 90% of their “Pro Combat” designs). I’m more for simple changes, like an inversion of the helmet colors from white-with-navy-stripe to navy-with-white-stripe. Change the design just tastefully, like the Texas A&M uniforms adidas did.

I don’t think Penn State should change. I understand the “want” for a new look to represent a “new” era, but it’s just would be a colossal waist of money. We all know that if they change, the change will cause an uproar from the Penn State people and in about 5 years they will change back. Instead of changing the look of the football team, take that money that you would spend on creating the new look and put it towards abused children who need help. Do something positive and change the culture of not only Penn State, but all of sports. Changing a look is not that, it’s just a way for the university to get an easy cash grab and that money will sit in the pockets of those who are the problem at Penn State.

What Penn State has right now is really a classic look. I understand they want to move on from this scandal when things return somewhat to normal, but there’s no sense in making drastic changes. The White Sox even reverted back to black and white after the Black Sox scandal. I believe the Pittsburgh Pirates were involved in some drug scandal in the 80’s and never changed their black and gold scheme. Other college teams have been involved on various scandals (I.E. USC, Michigan, SMU) and have kept their colour scheme.

Umm… U of Pennsylvania is already taken. 😉 It’s an Ivy League school in Philly and they call themselves the Quakers.

Penn State is called the Nittany Lions because the local peak is called “Mount Nittany” and mountain lions do exist in Pennsylvania only in higher elevations on the mountain tops, hence the “Nittany Lions.”

As for the uniforms, they should just keep it as is. It’s iconic and a classic. Changing the name and/or colors isn’t necessary. You can change the name but it will still be the same.

Use this logic, if a piece of crap dries up and stops smelling, it does not mean it’s NOT a piece of crap…makes sense, right. I am not saying PSU is crap because I am originally from the area. I am just making logic here on why it’s not a good idea to change the uniform colors or the name of the school. 🙂
