New Portland TrailBlazers Alt Represents “Speed”, “Agressive Competition”

The Portland Trail Blazers today unveiled their new red alternate jerseys, just a few days after teasing us all via social media with a few pics here and there.  The jersey was unveiled at the teams annual Media Event.

These new red uniforms replace the red alternates worn by the club since 2002/03.

As with most new uniforms unveiled by the Blazers over the course of their history (well done, by the way) there are only slight modernizations to point out.

Across the front of the uniform is PORTLAND in black, straight letters, trimmed in white.  Replacing “BLAZERS” in white italics.  Number position remains the same but the colours, like the city name, have been reversed.

Around the collar the black/white stripes remain but now, like the uniforms unveiled by the Knicks last month, are cut off before reaching the underarm area.  The Trailblazers logo (5 lines versus 5 lines representing a basketball game) is now beneath the collar above the team name.

Portland’s famous diagonal stripes (a/k/a “the blaze”) on the front have also received an update as you can see in the above comparison.  The update to these stripes was said to represent “speed” and “competitive agression”.

On the inner neck tag is the “ripcity” logo, this logo also appears on the back of the shorts to remind the players that…

“Rip City will always have their back, even while on the road”

The Trail-Blazers will wear the new uniform between 8-10 times in the upcoming season, they’ll make their on-court debut on opening night against the Los Angeles Lakers.

The TrailBlazers say the jersey is on sale now, but it doesn’t appear to be… they’ll likely appear here as soon as they are ready.

Fans are encouraged to wear red for opening day.
