The Grey Cup logo is awful. Looks like a rough draft. It is completely unfinished. The clouds look like clip art from Microsoft that were just plunked in to take up space, the 101 on the bottom is not centered, the fonts are plain, the stadium with the lights shooting up out of it looks stupid. The entire look is flat, bland, lifeless, unimaginative, colourless and I’d like to know who designed it and who the hell approved such crap!

I too enjoy this logo for Grey Cup 101 (might as well go with it), since many Grey Cup logos of the past have been generic and not to fancy with imagination. However, if all of future Grey Cup logos are going to look like next year’s edition, then we might have a problem.

Add some green tot the fields and a hint of blue in the sky and you’ve got a very decent logo. But the 101 looks a bit awkward here, place it in smaller digits on the cup and fill the bottom part of the roundel with the place and the exact date. And Coupe should be equally large as Cup. Just put some small dots between Coupe.Grey.Cup!

Halfway off-topic, but once the Super Bowl hits 50 or “L”, isn’t it time to retire the Roman numerals? Or do you think the Roman numerals give it some needed charm? I’m just having trouble getting excited about Super Bowl L. Or maybe they can cheat a bit and start calling it 5X, 5XI, etc.

I disagree completely. I think the logo is beautiful and a vast improvement on the past 10 or so Grey Cup logos. Maybe this is the beginning of a template, but I feel the previous logos were very template-y. Team colours, cup, year, horrible font that the NHL and Memorial Cup also use, etc. This one is nice and clean, and, most importantly, original. The SuperBowl logo this isn’t.

I think that logo is actually supposed to represent the host. In the centre there are 2 elements that are likely representing Regina. The lines at the bottom likely represent the flat planes/wheat fields. If you have every been to Saskatchewan you see it is flat flat flat; not much but wheat fields and the horizon. The second element being the host stadium off in the distance which would some what replicate the scene that you would see from a far. I guess you have to know Canadian geography for it to make sense.

That’s a GREAT logo! It actually very much stands out when compared to logos of the past… which have been colourful, but basically all blend together into one maple-leaf-top-of-the-cup-city-name-year-coupe-grey-cup melting pot. This would suck if it was the same year after year like they’re doing with the Super Bowl, but as a one-off? It’s beautiful.
