Would be great for rivalry games to feature this sort of dark vs dark matchup. FLA (red) vs TB (blue), MTL (red) vs BOS (Black), CHI (Red) vs MIN (Green), CGY (Red) vs EDM (Blue) among others.

Well, nothing is set in stone with this realignment thing yet. And I believe the NHLPA rejected it, due to…

A) The confusion as mentioned especially with Colorado and Columbus potentially being placed in geographically incorrect divisions and a bizarre number of teams per conference.

B) Who knows how the Coyotes’ situation is going to turn out. If they end up moving to Quebec, just swap them with Winnipeg, rename the conferences and divisions and be done with it for now.

I’d only say Nashville should go to the other conference if the league chooses to expand to both Seattle with Houston or Kansas City or Portland or Milwaukee joining them. If Hamilton or Markham joins Seattle, Nashville would have to stay where they are.

Although they play in a different time zone than all the Eastern Conference teams, Nashville is close enough to Carolina and the two Florida teams.

What the league should also consider doing is combining HHOFers names with geographical names for the conferences and divisions. (Example: Gordie Howe Conference with West and Central divisions currently the Western Conference and Bobby Orr or Maurice Richard Conference with East and Atlantic Division currently the Eastern Conference). Although I’d personally revert back to the Adams, Patrick, Norris and Smythe divisions.

The reallignment is gonna be a hassle from what the NHL proposes. Why not move Nashville to the Southeast Division and Winnipeg to the Central Division.

In reply to ANTHONY GIACCONE. Nothing confirmed at this time for 2014 although the Leafs have told me they'll be unveiling their 2014 WC jersey in the Fall, so... yeah it's going to happen. Just an FYI for future reference, Wikipedia isn't exactly the super bestest source for these things.

The abandonment of color on color probably had to do with the rise of television. I would guess that photography came before television, and that hockey wasn’t a “big money maker” until TV came along. So when it was before television, red vs blue would have looked good in person (people in person see colors) and that would have been the only way to SEE the game. Of course, the newspaper would have a write up for archival purposes and might have run a black and white photo, but that would clearly have been secondary.
Once black and white tv broadcasts came into being, red vs blue would become a problem, because many many people not in the arena would be watching a game with two indistinguishable teams. Nightmare. Enter the mandate of creating a white jersey for tv.
